Many people it seems, don’t know that AAi has a garden open for everyone at ground level. It was a bit random, meadow-ish with a wooden staging area that sets could take place on should the urge arise.
But in SL, unlike in RL, I have a passion for gardening and landscaping and I had recently been letting those urges surge into a little cottage riverside place Thom and I had for a while. However, the owner of that estate had to let it go and so I needed a new outlet.
How about a rejuvenated Secret Garden? I thought! I launched the idea with Thom who was all for it and set about designing something suitable. The sim, at Clockwork where AAi is based, used to be very beautiful, with a huge bay looking out over linden waters, but all it takes is one rotten apple to spoil the barrel and sure enough, the kind of folks who love hideously ugly boxes appeared, scattering them randomly over the landscape until it was unrecognisable. For a while, it seemed we could stave this off by putting up a rough stone wall around the worst areas, but the boxes got bigger and badder until we could ignore it no longer.
The idea I had was to effectively cut the Secret Garden off from the outside world, while keeping it at ground level and with natural light (i.e. a skybox or skydome wouldn’t have satisfied me) and so this happened! The Enchanted Forest.
