Never Gonna Happen

Never going to happen

On Friday last week, I got prolific with photographs and was reminiscing how from the age of 3 until I was about 8 or 9, I’d taken ballet classes. My ballet ‘career’ almost never got started at all. After several weeks, my Mum arrived to collect me to find me in tears saying I didn’t want to go back there any more. When she dug a little deeper to find out why, I told her that at break-time, all the other children got orange squash and a 2-finger Kit-Kat, but I didn’t. My Mum went back in to find out why that might be the case by asking the teacher. Apparently, if you wanted squash and a Kit-Kat, you had to pay 15p extra, but nobody had told my parents this. After reassuring me that I would no longer spend my breaks alone and crying, I agreed to continue, which was great, because I loved it.

From 3-5, it was purely ballet and after that, I also did ‘tap’ and ‘modern’. I enjoyed it so much but, when I was around 8 years old, my ballet teacher informed me (with the same level of compassion as she inflicted other tortures) that I would be too big to be a ballet dancer. I was a bit gutted – and not entirely surprised – I was taller than most of the other little girls in my class and not remotely waif-like. As an adult, the fact that she turned out to be right (I’m now 5’10”) doesn’t entirely erase the dream I had that one day I might take the lead in Swan Lake, or at least wear a proper tutu. THEN! I got chatting with a friend in the club on Saturday night and it turned out she had been a ballet dancer, professionally, and is now mostly a choreographer. It absolutely seemed like providence and so I happily interrogated her about her life. I decided to tell you about it, as that seems to be what fate had in store for me instead of ballet. Happily, there is no height limit on writing.

Meri wears:

Blueberry Cassy Knotted Shirts – fitted for Maitreya (also Slink, Belleza and normal mesh) (Blueberry MainstoreBlueberry Marketplace)
booN KB0906 hair (booN Mainstore)
::{u.f.o}:: Swan Lake Act 1 practice toe shoes pink (Gacha Gift, try u.f.o mainstore)
RYCA DRP Charm Bracelet (RYCA Marketplace)
r2 A/D/E leather short pants pink (Prev C88 – try r2 mainstore)

Blueberry’s fantastic Cassy t-shirt updates the popular knotted shirt look with a tshirt and – being an sl oldie – I take particular joy in the knot being a part of the actual mesh shirt, rather than a stick on batch of prims. It comes in 14 colours for your sartorial delight. I’m finding Blueberry’s guestimating for Maitreya Lara body fitted sizes very good indeed. Of course, you do have to use the alpha HUD, buying mesh fitted for mesh bodies doesn’t preclude that requirement, it simply means that you can be assured it will work properly and look just like your body shape. The reason you’ll need to use alphas seems to be two-fold – I’m going to say pointy nipples and movement.

The cute ::{u.f.o}:: shoes were a gift from my friend Suki, an adorable wee girlie who displays her pretty face, fashion sense and curves on her own blog – Suki Loves.
