Second Life Fashion from ReadMeri |It’s Wonderful, Wonderful

When I think about the thing that has kept me in SL for all these years, the answer surprised me.

You see I am a person who is interested in people, I love making friends and talking with them… but it’s not my friends.

It’s not the fact I met Thom in SL, after all, I know him now, I don’t need SL to be around him… so it’s not Thom.

I do love fashion, but I can buy clothes in RL and try different styles with what I already have too… so it’s not that.

The major thing that has kept me coming back to SL almost every night, these more than eight-and-a-half years, is music.

I swear I’ve been treated to some of the best, worst, funniest, most emotional music in my time in SL than anywhere else. I’ve learned so much. I’ve gained so much. Nowhere else can I find the enthusiasm for the kind of music I like on a regular basis. Nowhere else can I hear a beautifully prepared 2 hour set each night by someone who I like and whose taste I respect.

Plus, it has created community. The indie crowd in SL is quite small relatively speaking and there are a few clubs I like to go to, but everybody knows everybody and standards are high.

It’s such a joy! When I hear about people who spend most of their time at a safe hub or hanging around a public area, I don’t understand why, when they could search for their favourite genre of music and have a peg to hang their hat on.

I have sat through sets that have made me laugh, ones that have made me cry, sets which were so delicate and beautiful and those which picked you up and carried you along with them. It’s like a peek into someone’s soul and it’s joyous.

People, as Johnny Mathis would say (I know, he’s not indie, haha) ‘It’s Wonderful, Wonderful…’

What to wear in Second Life today?

Pose | Manifeste Model Pose (Manifeste Mainstore)
Hair | Tableau Vivant My Holiday Evening B&W pack (The Arcade, 1-31 Dec)
Rings | **RealEvil** Ice Queen Rings (RealEvil Mainstore : RealEvil Marketplace)
Jeans | Blueberry Pizza Jeans [Mait/2Sli/3Bell] (Blueberry Mainstore : Blueberry Marketplace)
Boots | REIGN. Amelia Fringed Booties (Reign Mainstore)
Coat | Blueberry Minnie Winter Coat [Mait/2Sli/3Bell] (Blueberry Mainstore : Blueberry Marketplace)

If you feel like getting cosy this Winter, yet still having style, maybe you should go try a demo of Blueberry’s Minnie Winter Coat. It comes in a rainbow of colours, with optional shades for the faux fur parts (which are also removable if that’s not your thing). The tank underneath is also an optional item, with a HUD of colours for that too!

It’s a quality garment people, with a 20 tog value, like a mid-weight quilt, but much, much nicer to look at.

I paired it with Reign.’s Amelia Fringed Booties – a personal fave, and with Blueberry’s Pizza Jeans. I found the jacket went well with most of Blueberry’s jeans, shorts and skirts produce on the bottom half!

Here’s some additional photos and my ‘well lit, no shit’ shot 🙂

Finally, here is my ‘jigging for the rigging’ video. I hope my sweets don’t fall out my pocket.

  1. So interesting to read, my friend! I suppose my first objective was to meet new people and make friends from all over the Grid, that I’d have no chance of meeting otherwise. When I realised how much you could actually do creatively in SL, that became my second favourite thing to do.

    1. Yes, I think initially it was all about people, and largely it still is, but it was the music… And in your case being creative in other ways that kept us going. I hope that noobs find something they love and stay 🙂

  2. Lovely post as always Readmeri… what has kept me has varied over time, but what is constant that I love is learning all about different cultures through people and through the creations themselves. You must share some of these places so we can pay a visit. ❤

      1. You would be awesome to share a list of your favorite music-listening haunts, Meri! I’m so passionate about music in RL and I’m aghast to say I’ve rarely made time to listen to it in SL, because honestly I’ve just never known where to go to find it. I think we’re on the same wavelength too: I love indie rock, electro/synth-pop, chillstep, shoegaze, downtempo, etc. Any suggestions you have would be amazing! ♥
