Good morning picture perusers and word readers alike. I am going to talk today about what I think are reasonable expectations from a designer towards a blogger they have taken on. I’m basing this on 3 years of blogging for a range of designers in SL and being extremely happy with my current line up.
I’ve noticed a few changes of late. A few designers have requirements that I wouldn’t be prepared to commit to, while some are simply streamlining their processes. Let’s go!
I think it’s reasonable for a designer to expect bloggers to blog a minimum requirement a month. If it’s for an event, this might even be a weekly requirement. In my experience, two blog posts per month, per designer is quite normal, whereas if it’s an event, you can expect to blog two posts per week for the duration or similar.
In my opinion, this is reliant on them producing the requisite amount of new items for a blogger to blog. If they are having a rest or some time off, I don’t expect them to be chasing me to blog older items. I do blog older items when it fits in with a blog I’m doing and if they are great, but generally, each of my blogs contains new items to show the readers, otherwise it’s all a bit ‘ohh, that again, yeah… seen that’ ish.
I think it’s also reasonable for designers to give a guide on when they need the item blogged. For instance, I was asked to blog for one designer who wanted items blogged within 5 days. I replied and said that I could often blog within 5 days but that sometimes it would be 7 during busy periods, was that acceptable to them? They said it was and so we get along great.
I think it’s fine for a designer to want bloggers to add the picture to a Flickr group and to add the links and the date blogged to an online form or spreadsheet, so that they can keep track of who is doing what.
So, they are my examples of what I think is fine and acceptable, now, here are my thoughts on what makes it great!
I love it when designers put all the information in a pack that the bloggers receive to blog. Just a notecard or even naming the pack (and thus the resulting folder) appropriately is a good thing to do. The inventory of a blogger is a WAHAY place to be and so provision of accurate and reliable information in an easy to access form is delightful. I like to know the event where appropriate, the SURL (from map), the dates – beginning and end. If they are not provided, I have to go find out from other sources and that can be a tiny bit dodgy, cus you have no proof those sources are reliable (except Seraphim, which is a great source).
I love it when designers either run a blogger room system (you blog the items you take) or have a system whereby you do not have to blog each and every item they send you. I normally blog items sent through to me but there are occasions where it either doesn’t suit my ideas on personal style or I don’t consider it suitable for this blog (very intimate or aggressive toned items) and I won’t blog it.
I also want to say that one of my absolute favourite designers (I’m not saying whom) has no formal requirements at all, the stuff is sent to you and you blog it or not. There are no forms. They do, however, have a clear out on a semi-regular basis, so I’m sure if you’re not cutting it adequately, they would replace you in a heartbeat. However, it does promote an environment of trust and openness and this, I think, is valuable. If you can get a blogger on your side and make them feel like a part of your team, you get better results.
I have seen instances where other bloggers are talking about what to do if there are items out at events, but they have not been sent to you and you have your quota for the month to achieve – should you go and buy the item? I’ve nothing against spending money on items from those brands I blog for – obviously – or I couldn’t recommend them to other people, but when it comes to new releases and quotas, I blog what I’m sent.
Obviously these thoughts are my own and I’m not suggesting you should be the same, in fact, I’d love to hear about your blogging standards and ideas too!
I can say I’m proud of those brands I blog regularly and find them to be reasonable and extra-ordinarily creative people ❤

I know right, such a lot of stuff, but really, it’s not so complicated. BUENO’s OnewayorAnother Gacha is all the items barring the Suitcase Loveseats which are in their own gacha, both at the Arcade, so you know what machines you should be hitting to get those goodies.
Jian’s Scruffy Shepherds Gacha is also at The Arcade and contains a load of animals doing what they do best in SL – following you around or lounging.
RunAway’s Delina hair is the second of their offerings for Whore Couture Fair 7 and it’s a real stunner. Did you know you can choose whether to have materials on or off? S’true.
ChicModa released their Gemma Dress at Christmas time in some spangly tones and it was great. They’ve re-done it for Winter/Spring with 10 new colours and no spangles and I chose pink for my shots… cus I felt pink today.
!Aphorism! have released their brand new Sabrina Ankle Boots which are gorgeous suede wedge boots in a choice of 9 colours with a HUD to operate the wedge colour and metal texture too. So pick them up while you’re out – and also a loaf of bread please, we’re getting low.
Here’s lots more pictures. I mean lots. Have a clickety click through these…
Finally, here is my jigging for the rigging. Ai-Ai-Ai-Ai-Ai like you very much 😀
