So yesterday afternoon while my back was at its most mobile I thought I’d try to do something positive for myself so I felt better. I decided to dye my roots – we’re not going to talk about how my premature greyness began when a colleague found my first grey hair at 18 years old, or how the greys have gone on to take over my hair plains like the grey squirrels have the countryside. We are, however, going to acknowledge that the grey hairs are not native to my head and so need to be ousted by hair of colour.
I got seduced by the advertising for eSalon. I bet you’ve seen them if you’re the kind of girl who dyes her hair. It’s a ‘personalised service’ hair colour company based in America who will take a photograph of you and, together with what you say you need, produce a perfect match. I thought I’d give it a go. I did give it a go. It was shite.
Oh but that’s not a proper review I hear you cry. Tell us why it was shite! OK… cute packaging is the main plus point. I’ll follow that with an eye-wateringly acrid formula which ran while it was on my head (and this is with the product just on my roots even though I’d applied it with a brush) and 15 minutes into the 30 minute development time, I noticed my roots were dark brown, not dark blonde as they were supposed to be. In order to save myself looking like a total dog, I combed the mixture through my lengths to try to blend it in.
On the up side, the blending in at 15 minutes worked and my hair is now a consistent colour. On the down side, it’s a really boring matte dark brown. I’d worked quite hard to have natural looking hair, a few highlights etc. and for now at least that’s gone.
However, that’s not the worst of it.
When I got into the shower to wash the product out of my hair, my hair turned into clumps of plastic. I kid you not, it was the most terrifying hair-related experience of my life. I used the provided shampoo and conditioner sachets and tried to dry my hair – it looked like SL prim hair c. 2007 and felt like I had been turned into a Ken doll made entirely of plastic with my hair as plastic as my head. I went ahead and dried the hair – it didn’t want to dry, what with being made of waxy plastic. I put my hair up in a ponytail, didn’t cry and ate my dinner while Googling the issue. It seems googling ‘eSalon Plastic Hair problem’ tells a whole story.
I got back in the shower and washed it a further four times with my own clarifying shampoo and eventually the waxy feeling lifted. I conditioned and dried it and now it’s merely ugly.
I’m far from a novice at home hair colouring (as going grey at an early age requires a lot of colouring) but this is by far the single worst hair colouring experience of my life. eSalon sucked big time.
If you like your hair, please don’t go there, it won’t be a fun experience.
Aren’t I devil may care? RL hair colouring reviews mixed with SL fashion!
What to wear in Second Life today?

So many cute things to share today. Blueberry’s new release ‘Ace Double Tops’ is a pack of two tops. One of them is a button-through hip length top which I will no doubt show you in due course and today’s is a t-shirt crop top which is real cute. You can get them at the Blueb mainstore or on marketplace.
Jian’s Cheeky Chihuahuas are the second gacha from Jian for The Arcade this round. I chose this tan companion dog as he seemed keen to come out on the water with me. You can get statics, companions, and a rare with a pearl necklace – how cute!
KoKoLoRes have brought out this chic short hairdo ‘Quinn’ for Hairology this June, along with two other dos I’ll show you soon. I’m using the balayage HUD cus a girl likes some variation in her hair colour (sorry, still a little bitter about eSalon).
I picked up Nylon Outfitters shorts at Collabor88 this round. They are a fitmesh for Maitreya and they do one for Slink too. The fit isn’t perfect, I did some alphaing but they are so adorable. I do love (NO)’s style so much.
Here’s some more pics including a ‘well lit, no shit’ shot…
Finally, here is the ‘jigging for the rigging’ video. It’s actually a live version of Gorillaz ‘Feel Good’ from the Late Show and it’s cute. Stephen Colbert guests on it and there’s not much I love more than a middle-aged white man in a suit rapping… he does a good job too!
