I was chatting to a friend yesterday on the phone. She’s been my friend for a long time and I do love her. Sometimes she drives me bonkers, but essentially, there is that comfort there and the knowledge that we share our start in life in common.
But right, twice during our conversation she said something along the lines of ‘I know you better than anybody else’ and it gave me pause for thought.
I reckon that there are certain things you don’t say unless you are absolutely sure they are the case and will be well-received, and that is one of them. It would be okay for me to say that she knew me better than anyone else, but not her. Y’see?
It’s okay, imho, for someone to think someone else is sexy, but it’s not okay to say you are sexy or to (sacre bleu) make it a part of your SL username. If I see one more ‘SexyKitten’ or something, I’m going to barf. Kits – it’s not for you to say, sexiness is subjective.
You can add other lesser infringements into the pot too. ‘She had a really great time’ (not for you to say – if she said she had a great time then you should say ‘She said she had a really great time’ or if it wasn’t spoken, but she looked happy, then – ‘She seemed to have a good time’).
Have you heard of metagaming? It’s a term used in roleplay and I’m no expert, but it seems to relate to bad practice like simply deciding on something that affects another character without their consent, which forces them either to go along with that or to ruin the RP. An example using the text of a character we’ll call Peter…
‘Peter walked into Tanja’s bedroom, picked her up from her dressing table stool and threw her onto the bed. He tore off her clothes and they had sex’ (I know right… so darned erotic, haha).
That’s bad, the Tanja character doesn’t get a say in stopping her daily cosmetic routine, being thrown across the room or having sex. It’s a done deal before she can type again and she never gets a chance to say she has a headache or that Peter has bad breath, nor nuffing.
I see things like ‘I know you better than anybody else’ and saying that you, yourself, are sexy as metagaming too. It’s still deciding things that you ought not to get to decide on someone else’s behalf.
You may think I’m being picky, but I have trouble putting my pictures into Flickr groups called things like ‘Best SL Photos’ and ‘Sexy women of SL’ cus it’s just not down to me to decide that fact about a picture I made. But then I figured out these groups have moderators and if they disagree, they remove the picture, so I felt a little better. I try to be aware, I guess that’s my point.
Manners maketh man, darlings.
What to wear in Second Life today?
Visit | Simbelmyne
Hair | [KoKoLoReS] Pepper Hair (The Hair Fair 2017, til 16 July)
Dress | Blueberry – Crystal Heart Dress [Mait/2Sli/3Bell] (Crystal Heart, 30 June – 31 July)
Socks | MUKA Garter Socks Mesh for Maitreya Lara (MUKA Mainstore)
Shoes | Sweet Tea Mary Jane Flats (Sweet Tea Marketplace)
So first off, KoKoLoReS have some really lovely new styles at The Hair Fair, based around a loose theme of short and funky. I am a sucker for a gorgeous short ‘do’ and so was delighted with this one named ‘Pepper’. You can wear Pepper as a two-tone hair (shown, but it’s a subtle colour choice), fades, unicorn colours and the conventional colours too. Lovely.
Blueberry’s dress for Crystal Heart is a cute thang. Let me explain. You can wear it as shown – opaque dress underneath and transparent overlayer. You can wear it as both transparent, you can wear just the overlayer and bra top (like a babydoll), you can wear it without the overlayer, or all opaque. Yup, I think that’s all the variations 😀 It’s an adaptable and beautifully-made piece.
Here’s more pics including a ‘well lit, no shit’ shot…
And finally, won’t you even try to give a little bit – if you don’t know from that line, you’re probably younger than me and don’t remember T’Pau! Well, then you’re in for a treat 😀
