Second Life Fashion from ReadMeri | Where there’s life there’s hope

where theres life theres hope

I was wondering about Pandora’s Box the other day – you know, it contained hope. Anyway, I did a bit of research online and found that it wasn’t even a box originally, it was a jar. Pandora had a jar which contained all the evils of the world (some say all the blessings) and she opened it which allowed all but hope to escape. Some interpretations say that this means hope is a great evil and is meant to torture mankind, while they experience the evils which escaped the jar.

Some say that evil is kept from the people of the world, in the jar, and that is why it is evil.

Others yet, and I prefer this thought, think that hope was kept in the jar for mankind, so we were able to withstand the ‘evils’ floating around and torturing us.

Of course, there have been other opinions on hope since the days of Greek myths; “Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man” says Friedrich Nietzsche, no doubt after he’d finished googling Pandora’s Box.

There are more optimistic and uplifting thoughts too, from men who I admire –

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.
Desmond Tutu

As for the title of this blog, well, it’s usually attributed to Roman Statesman and orator Cicero, as he was known to have used it in a speech, but it was actually from a play from around 150BC –

Modo liceat vivere, est spes
While there’s life, there’s hope
– Heauton Timorumenos (The Self-Tormentor) by Publius Terentius Afer

I think hope is what defines us as human, our ability to see beyond the current situation, to see that there might in the future be something better. Let’s keep it up!

About:

The Frankie Dress comes in 16 colours and in each colour pack you get the plain colour and a really pretty ombre version. I’m wearing the grey ombre and it fades into a gorgeous dusky purple. You can also wear a version of this dress with a metallic detail around the waist, which is great for evening-wear.

RunAway’s Aschera Hair is an other-worldy, feminine ‘do’ with rings and hanging stones which you can change the colour of via HUD. So pretty! I’m wearing a colour from the Blondes HUD here.

Here’s some more pics, including a ‘well lit, no shit’ shot…

And finally, here is the jigging for the rigging video. I’m going way back to a gentle song I think speaks of despair and hope.

  1. Hmm, interesting, my friend! I think hope can be a positive desire sometimes, if it is for the good of the world. In that way it culminates into a kind of collective desire which may get taken notice of by the Divine and acted upon. Otherwise, to keep hoping for various things that can never be, only adds to mental torture. It’s much better to witness what goes on in life, stand back from it a bit. Otherwise it is such a maelstrom nowadays, that the average person can get battered to pieces. It is a bit of a conundrum to understand that if you just put in a prayer and then forget about it, the desire or need or whatever it is gets taken care of, but if you keep it to yourself by going over it again and again ad infinitum what can be done about that? Not a lot. ❤

    1. I love hearing your perspective Moz, thank you 🙂 I’m not a person who prays as a habit, but generally I feel that hope is the thing that keeps us from despair – as long as we don’t promise ourselves things which can’t be, and end up feeling like a small child. Maelstrom is such a great word… you know what a sucker I am for vocab 😀 Hugs you.
